    Role Overview

    An exceptional opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal & Wordings Counsel to join a leading international specialty insurance group on a 9-month FTC maternity cover (with potential extension to 12 months)
    Working as part of a respected legal function, this position plays a key role in supporting underwriting operations across multiple classes of business.

    You’ll advise on a wide range of legal and regulatory matters, with a strong emphasis on drafting and reviewing policy wordings, endorsements, proposal forms, and related documentation to ensure accuracy, compliance, and commercial alignment.
    The role offers the chance to work closely with senior stakeholders — including underwriters, claims, compliance, and operations — while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of wordings governance and legal processes across the business.

    This position is based in London, offering hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

    Candidate Profile / Experience Needed

    This role would suit a qualified lawyer (4+ PQE or equivalent) with a strong background in insurance law, wordings, or the London Market, ideally gained within an insurer, reinsurer, Lloyd’s syndicate, or a leading private practice law firm.
    You’ll combine technical legal expertise with commercial acumen, providing practical, solutions-focused advice in a fast-paced environment.

    Key requirements include:

    • Proven experience advising on policy wordings, endorsements, and related insurance documentation.
    • A solid understanding of London Market operations and regulatory requirements.
    • Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills.
    • Ability to deliver clear, business-oriented legal advice within tight timeframes.
    • Collaborative approach with the confidence to engage across multiple teams and senior levels.
    • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
    • A proactive, self-motivated attitude with the ability to manage competing priorities.
