Responsibilities:
As a Claimant Industrial Disease Lawyer, you will play a pivotal role in handling complex group actions of substantial value. Your responsibilities will vary based on your level of seniority and may include, but are not limited to:
Junior Lawyers:
- Assisting senior lawyers in the management of group actions, including conducting research, drafting legal documents, and liaising with clients and relevant parties.
- Conducting legal research to support case strategy and stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, regulations, and case law.
- Attending court hearings and settlement negotiations under the supervision of senior lawyers.
- Assisting with the preparation of evidence, witness statements, and expert reports.
Senior Lawyers:
- Leading and managing a caseload of high-value group actions, involving multiple claimants and complex legal issues.
- Conducting detailed assessments of potential claims, gathering evidence, and evaluating their viability for group action representation.
- Collaborating with clients, medical experts, and relevant third parties to gather substantial evidence, witness statements, and expert reports.
- Drafting and reviewing legal documentation, including pleadings, settlement agreements, and other relevant court submissions.
- Representing clients in court hearings, settlement negotiations, and mediations, ensuring their best interests are advocated effectively.
- Conducting legal research to stay abreast of relevant legislation, case law, and industry developments to provide accurate and reliable advice.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, you should meet the following qualifications and skills:
- For Junior Lawyers: Qualified solicitor or barrister with a passion for industrial disease claims. Prior experience in industrial disease law is essential.
- For Senior Lawyers: Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in handling industrial disease claims and group actions.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and case law pertaining to industrial disease claims and group actions.
- Proven track record of successfully handling industrial disease claims, demonstrating exceptional case management skills.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities to navigate complex legal issues.
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills, with the confidence to represent clients in court proceedings and settlement negotiations.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective client engagement and clear articulation of legal arguments.
- Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Membership in the Law Society or other relevant professional bodies is preferred but not essential.
